Speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire, Keith Alexander confirmed that he had spoken directly to Jon Parkin but the striker wanted to "wait and see" what offers came in during the summer when his contract expires meaning that Macclesfield could be set to see their star striker leaving for nothing after rejecting City's deal worth £140,000.
"The fact of the matter is that the kid's out of contract at the end of the season and why would he want to come to us when he could make 3 times the money at one of the championship sides who are interested. He's not going to come to us, we're interested in him and he scores a lot of goals, we're trying our best to get him in, we've spoken to him and his people and they're perfectly happy to wait until the end of the season to see what happens."
Only 3 clubs have made bids to sign Parkin now, the other two being Chester and Southend, both believed to bid £50,000, however, there are believed to be up to 20 clubs interested and the fact that Parkin's contract expires in the summer explains why so few clubs have made a bid to sign him now. Clubs believed to be interested are Leicester, Crewe, Hull, Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall.
It is highly unlikely that Parkin will move to Sincil Bank, even in the summer and Macclesfield could be left to rue rejecting any of the 3 bids as they struggle against the financial problems that they have inherited recently.
