England vs Wales, Part 2
By Nathan Jackson
September 12 2005
Lincoln face Wrexham on Tuesday night, looking to record only their 2nd league win of the season, of course it's a draw. Despite only 1 defeat so far, City have got off to a disappointing start the season and face a very tricky tie against "controversially" relegated Wrexham.

Well well well, the typical Lincoln City has turned up for the last 3 games. Since the 5-1 demolition of Crewe, City have been held to draws by the very average sides of Rushden, Carlisle and Bristol. Out of 3 games where we should have had 7 points, we came away with 3 and we failed to score a single goal from open play in those games.

Despite a 4 game unbeaten run in the league, the Imps will look for an improved performance in the re-arranged game with Wrexham. Plus, I turned 21 on Monday and we haven't won on the game around my birthday under Keith Alexander so a draw would hardly be surprising.

City came away from Bristol Rovers with several players suffering from knocks. Lee Beevers, Gary Birch and Nat Brown were all injured after hidiious challenges from Rovers' players the other day and none look likely to be playing tomorrow night, forcing a major reshuffle. Gareth McAuley could solve the problem reguarding Nat Brown and recent the formation to a 5-2-3 with Bloomer covering the position of Beevers. The replacement of Birch will almost certainly be either Meheta Molango or Marvin Robinson. However, Keith could easily go for the 5-3-2 with Kerr keeping his place in midfield.

Who I think will start (Right to left)

Marriott

Beevers     Morgan    McCombe   Mayo

Cryan     Kerr     Keates

Molango     Asamoah

Now, this may prove to be very controversial but let's face it, despite being deducted those 10 points, Wrexham did generally deserve to be relegated. Now now, before you all start abusing the message board, let me explain. Fair enough, you were deducted 10 points and if you were given them back, you wouldn't have been given them back, however, the thing that most fans forget is that Wrexham were deducted the points in.........DECEMBER. Yes, they had 10 points deducted and they had 6 months to correct it, if they were truly good enough to stay up then they would have made that deduction count for nothing and stayed up anyway by winning enough games. Jesus christ, you beat Hartlepool 6-4 away, one of your 5 wins in the 2005 half of last season, no team that only wins 5 games after Christmas deserves to stay up, regardless of the circumstances.

Wrexham continued their relatively poor form into this season although they did start quite well, winning 2-0 at home to Boston United. However, after that, it went down hill. A 1-0 defeat at Notts County was followed by a goalless draw at Northampton. A 1-0 defeat at home to Carlisle was followed by a 1-0 defeat at Doncaster in the Carling Cup.

Wrexham got a 2-2 at Bury before beating Barnet 3-1 and Cheltenham 2-0.

The two teams have only faced each other twice this century. The first came on October 26th 2002 when the new look City, travelled to the Racecourse Ground. After an eventful first half, City took the lead early in the second half when Dene Cropper scored a well taken goal for his 3rd, and ultimately last goal for the Imps. Later on in the half, City made it 2-0 when Paul Smith burst down the left and slotted neatly past the keeper.

The return game at Sincil Bank was a more even contest. City did take the lead in the 2nd half when Simon Weaver's shot deflected in off of Scott Willis' rear end. However, the lead didn't last long as the ball found it's way into the net. Although the goal was credited to Andy Morrell, who would score well over 30 goals this season, the ball clearly came off the leg of Paul Morgan and looped over Marriott.
