Chester look for easier second
By Nathan Jackson
July 17 2005
Chester City will look to improve on last season's disappointing finish and under Keith Curle, should achieve that. After storming the conference in 2003/4, many had expected Chester to do well but numerous events throughout the summer prevented them to get going and finished disappointingly.

Last Season After storming the conference, everyone was expecting them to do fairly well but the unexpected departure of manager, Mark Wright, less than 24 hours before the opening day game at Notts County, seriously screwed up what could have been a good season. The effect was obvious as the team so dominant in the conference, only won 2 games before the mid of October.

However, Ian Rush then took over and the club when on an undefeated run of 9 league games, however, the impact of those run wasn’t widely felt because they drew too many games in that run. However, Rush tried to go on but only 7 wins in 2005 says it all and Rush left towards the end of the season, replaced with Keith Curle.

This season? With Keith Curle, they have a manager, who, if he’d been allowed to continue at Mansfield, would more than likely taken them to promotion last season, however, off the field problems saw Curle eventually sacked. Curle’s teams always play with pride and passion (and diving) so the Chester fans should be anticipating a good season compared to the last and Curle has brought in several of the team that got to the playoffs 2 years ago from Mansfield.

Prediction 12th, although not enough to challenge for the playoffs, Curle should still realistically improve the chances of them finishing in the top half of the table.
