Rewind Right, before we start talking about the 2004/5 season, we'll go all the way back to the 2003/4 season and the game in April at Brunton Park between City and the Cumbrians. Carlisle had been struggling all season long but everyone viewed Paul Simpson as the clubs saviour (despite winning only 1 of his first 20 odd games in charge), now normally, when a club puts on a battle like they did then most fans would have respect for them for sticking it out the whole season. But then, when you watch the video of the match at Brunton Park, comes the moment that just shows how disgusting a lot of Carlisle fans are when they started chanting "You're supposed to be deceased" at Keith Alexander. I was glad when they were relegated for this reason.
Last Season Carlisle began life in the conference like a house on fire and didn't lose until October when they met eventual champions, Barnet. Up until that point, that had recorded wins of 3-0, 5-0, 6-1 and 7-0 and were maybe people's favourites for the title and although the effects of that defeat weren't felt for a while, they soon lost their form and started slightly falling down the table. Around Christmas, they had major flooding at Brunton park and they couldn't play at home for a while. Barnet used this oppurtunity to race out of site. Towards the end of the season, Carlisle won 8 out of 10 games and that was a major part into getting into the playoffs. They defeated Aldershot on penalties in the semi final before beating Stevenage to retake their place in the football league.
This season? Do I think they'll do well, to be honest, I don't know, I mean the conference is a damn hard league to get out of but they ALWAYS struggle in this division and are always favourites for the drop. I won't pretend to know who they've signed or anything but I think they have better quality than the 2 teams I predict to go down and should finish at least a fair few places away from the drop zone.
Prediction 18th, as I say, they always do badly at this level and Paul Simpson has also has a poor record and this level. Only time will tell but in all honesty, midtable at best.
