Mansfield started the game and got off to an explosive start and Derek Asamoah ran through the defence and only a very very delicate tackle stopped the well travelled striker from getting a very early shot on target.
The resulting scramble saw Gain run around the Mansfield midfield in what was a case of "Old School" Gainy. The ball was passed to Carruthurs who's shot came back off the post as he is still in search of his first goal for the Imps.
In the 13th minute, Lincoln gained a corner. Taylor-Fletcher drove the ball into the box and Gareth McAuley headed in at the back post for his first goal in an Imps shirt.
The game wasn't a classic with neither side looking like promotion contenders. However, in the 30th minute mark, more great work from Butcher and Gain, who were having their best games of the season, realised Yeo who ran one on one with Pilkington only for the hammered shot to go wide.
More scrapped play followed with Mansfield really looking lost for ideas and at times, totally uninterested, whereas Lincoln were having their best game of the season so far. Taylor Fletcher proved an inspiration again when he chipped (not hoofed as Mansfield had been doing all afternoon - DID YOU SEE THAT MR CURLE???) the ball through to Yeo who shook off Artell. Yeo then looked up and shot, the ball curved beautifully around the diving Pilkington to make it 2-0 to the Imps and things were looking good. However, City didn't go into the break 2-0 up.
Curtis gained posession straight from the restart and ran down the wing before crossing the ball in and Adam Murray headed the ball in for 2-1.
Mansfield stormed out for the second half and put City under massive pressure and got a corner on the 49th minute. After nearly 40 seconds of waiting (surely that's a bookable offence for time wasting), the corner was taken and a bullet header from Baptiste saw the Stags pull back to 2-2.
It turned into a bore-athon and nothing really happened for the rest of the half and City had thrown another 3 points away. I don't mean to sound harsh but this 5 game unbeaten run means very little considering we've only got 7 points from it, we don't get anywhere drawing games but at least it's a start.
