The Imps started March with a brilliant display at high flying Dagenham and Redbridge. City were outstanding in what has been referred to by many as the best away performance we had under Jackson. Aaron Brown put City ahead just before half time before late goals from Anthony Elding and Janos Kovacs gave the game the score it deserved.
Just days before a trip to Grimsby Town, Lenell John-Lewis was diagnosed with needing a hernia operation. This meant he was subsequently saved from the humiliation that would take place a few days later. Whilst Martin Pembleton left to join Lincoln United on loan, Peter Jackson bought Michael O'Connor in from Crewe on loan.
Then came the game turned a fair few fans against Jackson. There were a lot of pro-Jackson fans, there were a fair number of anti-Jackson fans, but the majority were floaters before the game at Grimsby Town. The Mariners had won just four games all season and had an awful home record, despite this, they took the lead through Adam Proudlock just before half-time. City did equalise in the second half through N'Guessan, that before Anthony Elding missing a header from a yard that would have put City into the lead.
Thirteen minutes of madness followed as Grimsby ran riot, with Proudlock completing his hat-trick and Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro getting a brace. Many have gone as far as calling it the worst away performance of the entire decade.
Anthony Elding's final goal for the Imps came a few days later as the Imps beat Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 at home for the third season in a row.
Paris Simmons agreed to join the Imps on loan but due to varying circumstances, never actually played a single minute of football for City. Takura Mtandari and Ismael Ehui had failed trials for the club.
Bury were the next to visit Sincil Bank and City were close to a deserved win. However, the Imps goal was very strange. Michael O'Connor had played an excellent through ball to Aaron Brown and the midfielder was stood level with the penalty spot when he received the ball, but the Bury defence were a further 15 yards up-pitch and claiming offside. Brown played on and squared the ball to Ben Wright and he subsequently slotted it home.
Despite dominating the game, City found themselves only taking a point from the game when Andy Bishop scored late on. Anthony Elding was also sent off just before half-time.
With not much going on off of the pitch, the next noteworthy incident of 2009 was the trip to Barnet. Michael O'Connor opened the scoring before O'Flynn and Adomah turned the game around to give Barnet the advantage. Patulea drew City level but O'Flynn scored the winner three minutes from time.
Frank Sinclair left Sincil Bank on loan to go to Wycombe Wanderers, replacing him was James Bennett, loaned in from Hull City. I say replaced, what I actually mean is that it was yet another case of a player coming to Sincil Bank and never actually getting on the pitch.
Notts County were the next team to visit Sincil Bank and Delroy Facey, who would join the Imps later on in the year, gave Notts the lead before Sam Mullarkey actually did something right, scoring what would turned out to be his only goal for the Imps.
Adrian Patulea scored the only goal in a midweek win over Macclesfield to end the month.
