Shot-shy striker finally departs
By theimps.tk
June 30 2009
Sam Mullarkey has left Sincil Bank to news that will do wonders to the optimism of most Lincoln City fans. The former Lincoln United flop played on nineteen occasions in the Imps shirt, scoring just one goal in that time from just seven shots, managing a shot every three games on average.

Mullarkey's release now means that City only have one regular first team striker from last season still on their books, although that player (Lenell John-Lewis) was often played on the right wing. The diminutive striker joined from Grantham Town last summer, the only club he's ever had a decent goalscoring record at, but failed to impress the vast majority at Sincil Bank.

Despite being a flop in both realistic and statistical terms, Mullarkey was offered a new contract, but chose to reject it and Peter Jackson revealed on Tuesday that he has now left the club.

Looked lively against Grimsby to win the pen but not good enough at this level. Cannot believe he turned us down though.....where-else is he going to go? Another Boston target?

Not good enough. But as usual Nathan has presented his case in such a skewed manner it's tempting to try and stick up for Mullarkey.

Reducing a game like football with all it's subtle complexities to just using number crunching to try and validate a point is often going to be misleading.

It may work in the NHL or NFL or NBA, but it's application to football is severely limited.
