Butcher joins a rare club
By nath
May 27 2009
Richard Butcher has joined the club of men to have had three spells at Lincoln City club. The midfielder has been away from Sincil Bank for almost four years but has now fulfilled what he describes as a dream return to LN5.

Lincoln Citys Richard Butcher celebrates scoring against Macclesfield TownButcher has sought a move back to Sincil Bank since leaving 2005. He did return on loan briefly, but that's about as far as it went. He has played for Oldham, Peterborough and Notts County since leaving Lincoln and has rarely shown the form which made him such a fan favourite at Sincil Bank.

Having joined City from Kettering in November 2002, he made his debut against Cambridge United and scored his first goal a few weeks later, ironically against a Shrewsbury Town who have chased him near enough ever since. It was the first of stunning goal after stunning goal, although his last as a permanent member of the squad came against Macclesfield (celebration right) just weeks before the clubs met again in the Playoffs.

Apart from Freeman, Hobbo & to a lesser degree Yeo, can anyone else think of a player that has returned and produced the goods?

I was going mention him. I remember when Dean West came back he didn't cut at all.
I don't really care what the County fans say he always did a job for us and that's why all those clubs were queueing up for him in 2005 when he leave.
I think him and Kerr will make a good pair, he's certainly more mobile than Oakes.

It is weird though, I was so impressed with signing Oakes & Graham and really thought they would turn it on for us, Wycombe fans were wounded to lose Oakes so why did they both fail?

Probably down to managerial tactics ....... or lack of them, but that's all in the past now. Oakes to sign for Burton is my prediction!

The one that leaps out to me is Andy Graver. Produced the goods in each of his three spells at City. Recently though I can't think of anyone.

The only other player I can think of that had 3 spells with us is Gary West, although one or maybe even two of those spells were on loan. Nicky Eaden had 3 spells all on loan I think, although they may have all been during the same season?
