Reaction to Paul Green's 2008/9
By theimps.tk

After impressing many during his first full season at Sincil Bank, including winning the Player of the Season award, however, his second full season wasn't exactly the same and he became quite unreliable at the back, with a lot of the long range goals coming from his side of the pitch.

I have to admit that if there was one player who went back into his shell during the season, I never thought it would be Paul Green. He was brilliant in 2007/8 and was pretty much the only defender who could actually defend, but that has quickly changed. Now he's become a player who can't stick with the player he's marking, often strolls out of position and goes into tackles double footed, and getting just sent off once was fortunate as there were numerous other occasions he could have gone off.

It's quite hard to put your finger on how he changed from being so good to barely average. Maybe it was just that he looked good when put next to a rubbish defence, but looked average when put next to defenders who actually knew what they were doing.

He is also one of those responsible for some of the long range efforts against us. For example, Accrington Stanley's goal saw John Miles waltz around the area that Green was supposed to be patrolling, then smashing it into the net.

If we had another defender capable of playing the right back position well enough, then I honestly don't think Paul Green would be still in the first team.

Maybe it was his long term injury that he played with and now has to have an operation that could see him out for 6 months, worth a thought?

Agree with R&W, think a lot of the players look at these message boards. It must be a real motivator noting constant "downs" - 08/09 has gone, at this stage let's at least be hopeful if not positive for 09/10.

Well said Rottweiler, Green is class and young. I would give benefit of doubt for last season.
I just hope he gets sorted and fit for next season and we see the Greeny of the season before last.
HOPEFUL, a word we have been using for many a season!!
