Limp Imps lose yet again

Lincoln City's "Playoff Push" took yet another blow on Sunday afternoon. City were undone by some well worked goals, including two from the impressive Chris Martin, before eventually going down 3-2 to a Luton side that look fully capable of overhauling Grimsby as the season progresses.
City were the controlling force early on and were the first to create a chance when a foul on N'Guessan gained the Imps a free kick. Aaron Brown's delivery was cleared by Roper just before Freck was about to connect with the ball. Lincoln continued to press and it was almost awarded again as LJL just failed to connect to a Brown cross.

Luton's first attack brought the Luton crowd into raptures, although they mistakingly thought Martin  had scored as he hit the side netting. An N'Guessan drive was deflected wide for a corner that Luton counter attacked from, with only a fine Burch save denying the impressive Martin. Kovacs headed wide from another free kick before N'Guessan shot just wide.

N'Guessan dragged another shot wide before Luton opened the scoring. Spillane crossed the ball in and Chris Martin rose above Kovacs to head the hosts into the lead. Hone certainly wasn't happy with the Hungarian defender. The striker was causing a menace and it was longest long before City's defence frailties appeared again, two minutes to be precise. They allowed Martin to run freely until about 25 yards out, his shot taking a slight deflection on it's way into the net.

However, the Imps pulled one back a few minutes later when N'Guessan crossed, LJL hit the post before the ball came back out to him and he tapped in. The goal back was almost cancelled out immediately as Brown's sliced clearance barely evaded the goal and that was the final incident before half time.

Just after half time saw the hosts extend their lead. Spillane was again the provider as he sent a cross for the unmarked Roper to head in from close range. Burch was at hand to keep it at three as he saved a Jarvis free kick before Hone had to receive lengthy treatment after being fouled by Spillane.

Patulea replaced LJL for the Imps a minute before Freck made way for Oakes. Oakes' first action was to waste yet another free kick, hitting it straight at the wall from 25 yards. Kovacs hit the post a few minutes later, resulting in a goalmouth scramble that eventually saw a free kick given for a foul on the goalkeeper.

City did pull another back when Patulea slotted past Logan following a Brown flick, but that was the last realistic chance that the Imps had and it was yet another defeat for the limp Imps.
