Butcher joined the Imps in 2002 from Kettering Town, scoring his first goal a few weeks later when Shrewsbury came to Sincil Bank. He stayed at Sincil Bank until 2005, leaving for Oldham after the Playoff Final defeat to Southend United. He quickly returned to Sincil Bank on loan. He has since played for Peterborough and is now at Notts County. Butcher's two spells at Sincil Bank saw him make 126 appearances and score 13 goals.
The former Imp is proving to be a bit prolific for the Magpies and is averaging a goal just over every three games, scoring 17 goals in 64 games. However, his appearance against Kettering on Saturday has resulted in a broken metatarsel and he will now miss the game between the Magpies and the Imps on the 20th.
