Only three members of City's regular first team have been involved in cup victories whilst at City. Lee Frecklington played in a few LDV Vans Trophy games during his younger days, whereas Scott Kerr and Lee Beevers were both involved in the last knock-out competition game that City actually won, but here is the complete record of misery since that win over Crewe.
GAME 1 - FULHAM FC 5 LINCOLN CITY 4
CARLING CUP, SECOND ROUND
The Imps showed that famous fighting spirit under Alexander by taking Premiership Fulham all the way in this classic encounter. City had to come from behind twice against the men from Craven Cottage before Brian McBride's late winner sealed it for the hosts.
Rehman had opened the scoring on 26 before Helguson extended it on 31. Francis Green and a Volz own goal brought City back into it before Marvin Robinson wasted a one-on-one by hitting the bar in added on time. Fulham quickly regained their two goal advantage in extra-time, Rosenior and Radzinski scoring twice in two minutes.
Scott Kerr pulled one back for City before Robinson did equalise, however, McBride sent the hosts through in an emotional night at Craven Cottage.
GAME 2 - TRANMERE ROVERS 2 LINCOLN CITY 1
LDV VANS TROPHY, 1ST ROUND
City dominated at Prenton Park and really should have had at least three penalties. Rankine had opened the scoring for the hosts before Nat Brown had equalised for City. Jennings restored the lead for the hosts. Tranmere went out 11-10 on penalties to Carlisle in the next round.
GAMES 3 and 4 - MK DONS 2 LINCOLN CITY 1 (REPLAY - 1-1 IN ORIGINAL FIXTURE)
FA CUP FIRST ROUND, 1ST ROUND
City again dominated the home fixture and took a deserved lead through Marvin Robinson. Gareth Edd's heavily deflected equaliser took the game to a replay and Clive Platt proved the difference as his goals either side of a Paul Mayo penalty sent the hosts to a second round date with Southend.
GAMES 5 and 6 - GRIMSBY TOWN 3 LINCOLN CITY 1 (AGGREGATE)
PLAYOFF SEMI FINALS
City had two goals disallowed in the first leg before Gary Jones' effort gave Grimsby the advantage going into the second leg. Marvin Robinson pulled the tie level before Ben Futcher and Jones struck to sent the Mariners onto the Millennium Stadium, losing out to Cheltenham Town.
GAME 7 - SCUNTHORPE UNITED 4 LINCOLN CITY 3 (AET)
CARLING CUP, FIRST ROUND
Not quite as good as the Fulham game a year earlier but still just as nail biting. Steve Torpey gave the Iron an early lead before Mulligan extended the lead with a fantastic free kick early in the second half. City were creating little before Mark Stallard pulled one back for City before Frecklington equalised twelve minutes later.
The game went to extra-time and City turned the game around when Beevers headed. However, Shane Paul, a trialist at Sincil Bank during that summer, equalised for the hosts before Baraclough put the Iron through less than a minute later. Scunthorpe would face Villa in the next round.
GAME 8 - LINCOLN CITY 0 GRIMSBY TOWN 0 (3-5 ON PENALTIES)
JOHNSTONE'S PAINT TROPHY
When people think back to how brilliant Lincoln were in October 2006, they always forget this game. A drab affair went to penalties and it was ironically Jamie Forrester that missed from the spot. The striker had scored a hatrick at Barnet a few days earlier and would do again against Rochdale four days later.
GAME 9 - PORT VALE 2 LINCOLN CITY 1
FA CUP 1ST ROUND
City were the better team but went out of the FA Cup due to two very sloppy goals. Whittaker had given the hosts the lead with a very slow effort from 25 yards before Sodje rounded Marriott. Frecklington did pull one back late on but it was Vale who went through.
GAMES 10 AND 11 - LINCOLN CITY 4 BRISTOL ROVERS 7 (AGGREGATE)
PLAYOFF SEMI FINALS
The thing that always annoys me when people talk about this game is how Bristol Rovers dominated the two games.....I'm sorry, but they didn't. I was watching these recently and if City had put away even just half the chances we had, we would have scored at least ten over the two legs. Rovers won both legs, Disley and Walker scoring in the first leg, sandwiching a Jeff Hughes effort.
Campbell opened the scoring in the second leg from 35 yards before Lambert increased it soon afterwards. City dominated after that point and Hughes deservedly pulled one back before Walker pounced on a defensive mistake to restored Rovers' three goal advantage on aggregate. Stallard pulled another back before half time.
City again controlled the second half before Igoe and Rigg both scored against the run of play to sent Rovers through, Hughes' late effort for City meant very little, although it did get the Irishman out of Sincil Bank following his typical "I only turn up when the cameras do" attitude.
GAME 12 - DONCASTER ROVERS 4 LINCOLN CITY 1
CARLING CUP 1ST ROUND
The less said about this, the better. Forrester's 80th minute consolation meant nothing after Hayter, Wellens, Heffernan and McCammon scored for the eventually promoted Rovers.
GAME 13 - LINCOLN CITY 2 HARTLEPOOL UNITED 5
JOHNSTONE'S PAINT TROPHY 2ND ROUND (1ST ROUND BYE)
John Schofield's final home game in charge of the Imps couldn't have started any better. The Imps took the lead from the spot in the 4th minute but Hartlepool dominated thereafter and Joel Porter scored a hatrick, Mackay and Moore completed the scoring for Hartlepool before Stallard scored from 30 yards.
GAMES 14 and 15 - NOTTINGHAM FOREST 3 LINCOLN CITY 1 (REPLAY - 1-1 FIRST GAME)
FA CUP 1ST ROUND
The first game saw a typical Alan Marriott screw-up gifted the opener to McGuggan before an own goal took the game to a replay. City were well and truly out-classed by their hosts in the replay. Commons and a Tyson double put Forest through, Forrester did get a consolation for the Imps.
GAMES 16 - DERBY COUNTY 3 LINCOLN CITY 1 (AET)
CARLING CUP 1ST ROUND
Ben Wright's headed goal was very close to giving the Imps victory. To date it is Wright's only goal this season and he was outshadowed by Nathan Ellington. The striker rather fortunately equalised for the hosts before securing his hatrick in extra-time with two stunning goals.
GAMES 17 - LEICESTER CITY 0 LINCOLN CITY 0 (3-1 PENALTIES)
JOHNSTONE'S PAINT TROPHY 2ND ROUND (1ST ROUND BYE)
A terrible game went to penalties and City were shocking. Only Scott Kerr scored his with Frecklington, N'Guessan and Sinclair all failing from the spot.
