Sean Hessey had the game's first chance when Paul Green was punished for a foul on the ever slippery-footed Simon Yeo. He drilled his 25 yard free kick straight at Burch, but it wasn't long before Yeo uncharacteristically scored against the Imps, capitalising on a weakback pass from Frecklington and outpacing Janos Kovacs to score for the hosts. City had barely got out of the starting blocks at this point.
Yeo returned to true form when he blazed well wide a few mintes later from a near open goal position. City finally started getting into the game when Lee Beevers won City's first corner in the 14th minute. The set-piece wa week and went straight into Brain's arms. Patulea had a goalbound effort deflected wide before Kovacs headed over from just yards out.
The game wasn't exactly full of chances and it was approaching the half hour mark when LJL shot wide before Patulea shot over the bar, hitting one or two cars in the process. Frecklington had an effort that went into the car park as well before Beevers wasted a chance, heading over from yards out. City were now dominating but couldn't find the back of the net.
City won yet another corner just before half time and Oakes swung the ball in. This resulted in a goal-line scramble and Lee Beevers smashed the ball into the net to score his first goal for some time. Patulea almost gave the Imps a half time lead, but his twist and turn shot went just wide of the target.
LJL was injured early in the second half before Patulea was fouled in the area following good work from Oakes and Green. The referee waved play on. The second half wasn't exactly action filled either, only a Patulea blocked effort entertained the cowd for the early part of the second half.
Beevers missed an effort from six yards before Macc launched a rare attack. Simon Yeo broke past the defence and it looked like he might score a second, but Rob Burch saved well before Francis Green was replaced by Martin Gritton.
Paul Morgan was havng a fine game for Macc and he produced a brilliant block from LJL but then came a huge defensive error from the Silkmen. Beevers swung in a cross and Hessey should have dealt with it, not geting it away before Lee Frecklington poached to score an instinctive goal. Ben Wright made way for Patulea just after this.
N'Guessan had a shot blocked before Clarke replaced Oakes. Neither side could manage another effort on goal and the Imps had secured a third win in four games.
