Imps vs Chester by numbers

Played for both teams
By Nathan Jackson October 2 2008
Lincoln City vs Chester City is often controversial, but the amount of penalties Chester have been awarded is just one of many interesting facts. Several ex-Imps have found their way to Chester over the years, such as Justin Walker (left), Simon Yeo and Kevin Ellison, but only Marcus Richardson has played for both sides since Chester returned to the League.

The Imps have a fairly decent record against Chester City since the Blues returned to the League, taking a minimum of three points off of the men from the Saunder's Honda Stadium each season. Lincoln's four wins shadows Chester's two, with the other two games being draws.

However, the main talking points in these games is the amount of decisions Chester get in their favour during these fixtures. For example, Chester have gained four penalties in the four fixtures, two of which have been scored. Lincoln on the other hand have only gained two, one scored by Paul Mayo and the other by Jamie Forrester.

However, the dodgy decisions don't just stop there. In the 2005/6 season, Chester City were awarded a goal dispite Alan Marriott being blatently fouled whilst catching the ball. Later on in that same game, Paul Morgan was sent off in the final minute of added on time and Chester converted the penalty.

However, Chester wouldn't have stayed up that season if it hadn't been for Derek Asamoah. The striker scored a hatrick against Boston whilst on loan at Chester, scoring more goals in one night than he did in over forty games for the Imps, ironically one of those being against Chester. Asamoah is one of seven players to have played for Chester in the last four years after a spell with the Imps. Kevin Ellison, Kevin Sandwith, Simon Yeo, Marcus Richardson, Justin Walker, Ryan Semple.

No player has scored for both clubs in this fixture during the last four years, but there have been 18 different goalscorers, only two players scoring more than once and both of those were for Lincoln. Jamie Forrester is the leading goalscorer in this fixture, scoring 3 goals against the Blues, Nat Brown scoring twice at the Saunder's Honda Stadium.

All the other players have scored one and they are Gary Birch, Greg Blundell, Michael Branch, Craig Davies, Tony Dinning, Kevin Ellison, Francis Green, Richard Logan, Roberto Martinez, Paul Mayo, McManus, Marcus Richardson, Mark Stallard, Jon Walters, Wilson and Simon Yeo.

In the 8 games, the Imps have scored the first goal on four occasions, but we have only won two of those games, drawing the other two. Chester have scored first on the other four occasions and have also won just two of those games, losing the other two.
