Hone was handed a shock debut in the 2007/8 season in a home game against Chester City, replacing the injured Lee Beevers in the defence. Since then he has been a surprise regular inclusion in the first team and his performances have won praise from all quarters. Now he has been officially rated by the Football League as one of the hottest young prospects in League Two.
Along with Barnet's Albert Adomah, Ryan Bennett from Grimsby Town, Gillingham's Charlie Howard and Matt Phillips from Wycombe Wanderers, Hone has been mentioned in an article pointing out the young players who are likely to make an impact higher up in the League.
Peter Jackson already considers him to be the best young defender outside of the Premier League. The last time he described someone as "the best young ..... outside of the Premier League" saw him sell Jon Stead for well over £1,000,000 to Blackburn Rovers at Huddersfield.
