I think that Gillingham are one of the sides with huge potential in this division, but I don't think they can achieve it under Stimson. The successful non-league manager has upset numerous former players for his alledged treatment of them and also managed to get the side relegated. Infact, the only reason I am predicting Gillingham to finish in the Playoffs is because I think there's a high chance that Stimson will be the first manager sacked during the new season.
They actually have quite a decent squad and they have one of the best young talents in the lower leagues, Simeon Jackson. The striker has been in this division before the Imps certainly know what he is capable of. He single handedly brought Rushden back into a game they were dead and buried in during the 2005/6 season, a match that saw Rushden score four times in five minutes, two of which were disallowed. If he can stay fit then Gillingham certainly have an excellent chance.
The only problem that Gillingham have is that when they get on a bad run, they can't seem to get out of it for love nor money. Their final 30 matches of last season yielded just six victories, infact, if you extend it back to Stimson's full time in charge then you have a record of 36 matches, eight wins, eleven draws and a whopping seventeen defeats.
As I mentioned above, I think Gillingham have a lot of potential to re-establish a winning mentality in this division and I think that as soon as they get rid of Stimson then they can seriously look at mounting a decent challenge for the Playoffs, the longer they leave it, the worse.
I think 7th is a realistic finish for the Gills, obviously that all depends on when (and not if) Stimson goes. If he goes in the early stages of the season then they stand a very decent chance, if not then another season in League Two will loom large.
