RIP Ernie Cooksey

Following on from our article wishing Ernie Cooksey a speedy recovery following his slipping into a coma, we regret to inform you that Ernie died last night. Although he never played for the Imps, he did play against City several times and also represented Boston United in recent years.
Following on from our article wishing Ernie Cooksey a speedy recovery following his slipping into a coma, we regret to inform you that Ernie died last night. Although he never played for the Imps, he did play against City several times and also represented Boston United in recent years.
Ernie played against the Imps four times in his career, all for Rochdale and his performances will be remembered by Imps fans as Cooksey came close to getting sent off several times. He joined Boston in 2006/7 but couldn't prevent them getting relegated.
He was diagnosed with a malignent melanoma and he slipped into a coma a few nights back. Cooksey died in the early hours of Wednesday morning at the age of 28 and leaves behind his heavily pregnant girlfriend.
