Brown follows Iffy yet again
By Nathan Jackson June 30 2008
Lincoln City had signed Aaron Brown, the third time he has linked up with Iffy Onuora. The former Gillingham and Swindon man has joined the Imps following his release from the Priestfield. Could he finally be the solution of our problematic left sided defence problem?

I'm goign to share a story with you, I've got a friend called Nathan Norris who supports Swindon and as soon as we brought in Iffy Onuora to be the assistant manager, he sent me a text saying "£10 says you sign Aaron Brown at some point." A few weeks later and Aaron was having a trial at the club, a rather impressive trial match and now he has signed for the Imps on a permanent basis.

Despite not hitting 30 yet, Brown is a highly experienced player, completing just shy of 300 games in his career. Hopefully that experience could finally solve our problematic left back position. Stuart Bimson, Paul Mayo, Kevin Sandwith, Lee Beevers, Lee Ridley and Gary Croft have all attempted to cement their place in that position over the last few years, none managing more than a few months before they were replaced.

No-one has ever really made that position their own. Are you saying Bimmo only managed a few months?!!!!

Him and Mayo kept switching between them for a while.

He only played 157 matches for us, plus 18 as sub!! Perhaps he was partly before your time Nathan, but to say he never made the left back position his own is doing an injustice to a player who was a faithful servant of the club for many years.

I think both Mayo & Bimmo were decent League 2 level players for us, and both can be remembered in a favourable way ........ not as good as Philip Neale, but not many have been

In all fairness, I did say "In recent times"

I know Bimson was a regular back in the day, then Mayo came in and replaced him for a while. Mayo was then dropped for Bimmo in sort of autumn time 2002/3 if my memory serves me correct, but then Stuart left. Mayo retook over until leaving before Sandwith made a bit a@#$%&job of the position.

I can't even remember off the top of my head who was the regular left back in 2005/6, whoever it was ended up being replaced by Jeff Hughes around New Years.

Then last season we had Croft and Ridley switching with each other.

As I hinted at in the article, you'd have to go back to probably before this century to find the last time that the left back position wasn't the biggest worry, probably since before Mayo initially replaced Mr Bimson.
