Imps target named in Top 50 strikers
By Nathan Jackson
May 30 2008
Neil Harvey has been named as one of the Top 50 strikers in the non-league by the Non League Today newspaper. The Retford striker was on trial at the Imps towards the end of the season and City were amongst one of several clubs who confirmed that they were interested in signing the striker from Barbados.

Neil Harvey scored 29 goals for Retford and that record saw sides such as the Imps, Morecambe, Hartlepool and Oldham interested in the striker. City took him on trial and it didn't take long for him to make an impact, score a tremendous goal against Grimsby Town, smashing home a volley from the edge of the box.

City were hoping to bring him to Sincil Bank but there has been little news on the matter since he signed a new one year contract at the Badgers.

Harvey has been voted as number 49 in the Top 50 Non-League strikers according to www.nonleaguetoday.co.uk. Ex-Imp Richard Logan also features in the list, appearing at a highly credible 12th. Craig Westcarr also features in the list.

Daryl Clare at 7th always was a good non league striker but couldn't cut in the league, Fleetwood the other season for Hereford looked promising Forest Green picked up a bit of Gem there for free...! Thought Rendell that scored past us for Posh looked very good also he was picked up from Cambridge. There are a few Gems in non league still to be had. But not Clare...!

Another one came when I read "Just failing to make the cut was Bishop Stortford's Greg Pearson"

True, but the list includes players from conference down, and Harvey, with Retford, is only in the Unibond First Division South. That's something of an acheivement IMHO.

Well when the consider that the non-League is huge.

For a start, the Bristol League has about 24 divisions. I think I read somewhere that there's more non-league teams in the UK than there are top flight teams in the world.
