"Mazza" heads list of released players

Alan Marriott's 9 year career at Sincil Bank is over. He is one of four players to be released by Peter Jackson, along with Gary Croft, Adie Moses and Mark Stallard. Marriott's release wasn't really a surprise as Jackson prefer Ben "butterfingers" Smith over him but it is a shame that he won't get to complete his testimonial year at Sincil Bank.

Marriott joined the Imps in 1999 from Tottenham Hotspur and was the number one goalkeeper for the majority of his time at the club. Only Chris Day, Paul Pettinger and Ben Smith were able to keep him out of the side when he wasn't either injured or suspended.

He broke the appearance record for a goalkeeper in the defeat against Swindon in the 2006/7 season. His final appearance for the Imps came in the 2-1 win at Chester, his final contribution being a penalty save before he was forced off injured.

However, without trying to sound harsh, he didn't really earn a new contract. Marriott last signed a new deal in 2005 after claiming Bradford had tried to sign him but he didn't want to move to another club to be anyone's number 2. Bradford City quickly denied these rumours, claiming they had never got in contact with the goalkeeper.

3 years later and Marriott hasn't really won us many points. He put in an excellent showing at Fulham in September 2005, but that was one of the few games where he impressed and I think the time was right for him to leave Sincil Bank.

Adie Moses, Gary Croft and Mark Stallard have all also been released. All three were injury prone and have had stop-start City careers. Jamie Hand's contract has also been terminated by mutual consent.

Scott Kerr's contract has been extended to next summer, whereas Shane Clarke, Jamie Forrester and Ayden Duffy have all been offered new contracts.

Happy for Forrester. Gutted for Marriott and in my opinion a wrong decision.

Cant say I'm not dissapointed to see him leave, it will be a hard task for the next to keeper to fill his gloves.

gutted - really am.
a popular figure and is bound to be after 9 seasons. personally i would ahve kept him on because he is a damn good keeper but jacko thinks we can do better and we shall see.

this is a terrible decision. I do not believe we will get a better keeper than mazza. He should have been the first to be offered a contract. Terrible news.

Gotta feel for Mazza ..... number 3 in my all-time City Goalie list behind Felgate & Grotier. One dodgy season perhaps, but it wasn't that long ago we were singing "England's Number One" was it?

A great servant, and deserved a testimonial.

i think its a disgrace that mazza, one of the best servants to the club is released yet they keep nat brown who is one of the worst defenders in the lower leagues.

Absoulute Disgrace in my opinion!!!!!

NAT BROWN CANNOT BE RELEASED AS HE IS UNDER CONTRACT. SAME WITH AMOO AND SEVERAL OTHERS. WE CANNOT GET RID OF THEM UNLESS THEY AGREE A SEVERENCE PACKAGE, OR ANOTHER CLUB COMES IN FOR THEM.
