Port Vale coming down? MK and Boro up?
By Nathan Jackson March 23 2008
Port Vale could be the first team in the Football League to confirm a change of League next season if they lose against Gillingham, depending on other results of course. If Port Vale lose then they will be a minimum of 17 points from safety with just 18 points left to play for, meanwhile Aldershot took yet another step towards League football.

Port Vale currently sit bottom of League One and are 17 points from safety with just 21 points left to play for. A defeat against Gillingham on Monday would mean they would have to win the rest of their games this season to stand even a remote chance. That is also assuming that at least one of Crewe, Millwall and Cheltenham fails to pick up another point this season. The highest Vale can reach now is 19th due to Cheltenham and Crewe playing each other on April 19th.

It is extremely likely that Port Vale will become the first team in any of the Top 4 divisions to confirm their place in another division for next season. They are still likely to be joined by both Bournemouth and Luton. Bournemouth could also potentially be relegated by the end of the week and travel to Millwall on Saturday. Luton have a game in hand over those above them so although they could mathematically be relegated this week, it would take an extreme set of results for that to happen.

Gillingham gave themselves a great chance with a win on Saturday, now they are 4 points behind Crewe with a game in hand and they have arguably the easiest run in.

SUMMARY : PORT VALE WILL BE RELEGATED WITHIN THE NEXT 7 DAYS IF THEY FAIL TO PICK UP AT LEAST 3 POINTS. BOURNEMOUTH AND LUTON COULD BE RELEGATED WITHIN THE NET 7 DAYS BUT IT WOULD TAKE A FREAK SET OF RESULTS TO RELEGATED THE HATTERS.

MK Dons and Peterborough will both guarantee at least a Playoff place if they win on Monday. If MK win at Accrington and Peterborough beat Chester then neither can finish lower than 7th place regardless of other results. Hereford could also guarantee at least a Playoff place during the net week, but it is less likely.

Neither Wrexham and Mansfield can be relegated this week due to their games in hand over the opposition above them

SUMMARY : MK DONS AND PETERBOROUGH WILL BE GUARANTEED AT LEAST A PLAYOFF PLACE IF THEY WIN. HEREFORD COULD POTENTIALLY MAKE THE PLAYOFFS THIS WEEK.

In the BSP it was another good week for Aldershot as they picked up points whilst their rivals dropped them. Aldershot can neither confirm promotion or a Playoff place even if they win their 3 games in the next 7 games.

Cambridge, Stevenage, Torquay and Burton all currently occupy the Playoff places.

SUMMARY : NO-ONE CAN BE PROMOTED OR CONFIRM A PLAYOFF PLACE
