Manager : Martin Allen
Key Player : Izale McLeod
Tipped by many for : Promotion
Last Season : MK Dons suffered relegation for the first time in their short history but came incredibly close to avoiding the drop AGAIN. Under Danny Wilson, they got off to a truly awful start, not winning until their 11th game with a win over Scunny. Their form however continued to be disappointing and another 10 game winless run around the Christmas period set them up for a seemingly guaranteed relegation and the inability to get back to back wins for ages seemed to doom them to the drop. Going into an away game at Oldham, the Dons were bottom by 6 points but 4 wins in a row saw them climb within 2 points of the safety zone but only 1 points from their last 2 games guaranteed their relegation and they eventually finished 22nd.
This season : Up and coming manager Martin Allen has taken the hot seat at MK Dons after leaving Brentford. Overnight, MK Dons went from being everyone’s “also rans” to one of the promotion favourites. Allen has added to an already impressive squad with several with players who’ve already proven themselves at a higher level, including Jon-Paul McGovern. MK Dons are a serious threat to anyone in this division and should easily be challenging for promotion.
Their success will depend on: If Allen can replicate the form he had at Brentford but with an improvement in terms of playoff performance.
Prediction : 4th, they should easily make the playoffs but whether they can make automatic promotion is something up for much debate. A debate about MK Dons, wouldn’t exactly be a first would it?
