POLL TO REVIEW POWELL CLASH |
|
Referee Graham Poll is to review the off the ball incident between Southampton defender and Reading striker Kevin Doyle which saw the Irish striker left with a splintered tooth. The pair clashed midway through the 1st half last night at St Mary's, and the suggestion was made that Powell had elbowed Doyle. Neither Poll or his assistant's saw the incident but it fired up tempers during the game, and moments later Doyle was booked for a late tackle on Powell. Doyle was angry at the incident and said; "I just turned on the edge of the box and the next minute I was floored. "I didn't see what happened, the boys said I got a box in the mouth, a pretty obvious one. "The ref didn't see it but he told me he was going to have a look at the video and if he sees something he'd put it in. Hopefully he will. "I'm not happy with it, I've got to go to the dentist now and have a front tooth splintered so it doesn't fall out. I'm back to Ireland on Sunday and seeing my girlfriend so I hope it goes down a bit! "It was definitely [a straight red] if the ref had seen it, I got booked 5 minutes later for a tackle on him, that was frustrating but it's the way it goes and we got a good result."
