Steve Coppell's Reading side will face Championship rivals Sheffield United in the 3rd Round of the Carling Cup at the Madejski Stadium.

The draw will come as a disappointment for both sides as both would have relished the opportunity of a Premiership side in the draw.

It's the 3rd home tie Reading have had this season in the Carling Cup after beating Swansea City 2:1 before seeing off Luton Town last Tuesday 1:0.

The Blades drew Boston United in the 1st Round of the cup and beat them 1:0 at Brammel Lane thanks to a 50th goal from Ian Ross. Then Neil Warnock's side face the difficult trip to Shrewsbury Town last Tuesday and they won on penalties after the match finished goalless after 120 minutes.

The tie will be played on either Tuesday 25th October or Wednesday 26th October with the game kicking off at 20:00pm. No ticket prices have been agreed yet by either side.
