MADEJSKI STADIUM |
The Madejski Stadium opened in August 1998 at a total cost of £45,000,000. The stadium is named after current Chairman John Madejski who paid for nearly half the stadium himself. One particular interesting fact about the stadium is that it was built on top of a refuse dump. The land cost £1 to buy off the council but £10,000,000 to turn into land that could be built on! The stadium is one of the finest in the country, and was selected 3rd best Stadium by visiting fans by Match of the Day Magazine. It was also voted best stadium for disabled fans so well done RFC.
The Stadium is simply spectacular with no obstructing views of the pitch wherever you are sat. The stadium boosts its own hotel which is connected to the front of the Main Stand (West Stand) Teams that travel long distances tend to stay over night in here. There are also very good facilities for disabled supporters. There is a designated section about a quarter way up of the stand, with seats for the helper just in front. Away supporters can have up to 4,200 seats if needed. Facing the North West Direction is the Academy Dome. Built at a cost of £1,000,000 it is now an integral part of the club's academy future, providing children to train in there on evening's in order to avoid the bad weather. It even has a radio station built into the stadium at the South-East corner. Reading 107FM which is partly owned by John Madejski, is the clubs official radio station. In the opposite corner the Megastore and Ticket Office are housed. The Megastore stocks are a large range of Reading FC merchandise including the replica kit. You can buy products from the shop on the clubs official online shop. You can now buy official Reading FC merchandise from the new Club shop in town. Located in Market Place the shop is currently on a three month trial and if successful will be made permanent. Next to this is the main Ticket Office. There are a total of four ticket Offices with them being located in the North, East and South stands. Away fans buying tickets on the day need to buy their tickets from the South stand ticket office. The upper tier of the West Stand provides the most expensive seating at the stadium as the views here are seen to be the best out of anywhere inside the stadium.
The East Stand is the most popular stand for supporters at the Madejski Stadium with the majority of season tickets holders sitting here. The most vocal supporters are also located in this stand in the south-west corner by the video screen.
Located behind the goal, the Reading FC band is housed in the North Stand.
South Stand The away stand at the Madejski Stadium, away supporters can ask for up to 4,200 in this stand if required. For there is a small away following and there is a large demand for tickets from home supporters, one half of the South stand can be opened to accommodated Reading supporters. All stands include a large number of male, female and disabled toilets, food and drink outlets and bookmakers. Please Click Here to download a copy of the ground regulations
