Former Forest defender Gary Charles has today been jailed for four months for Drink driving and Criminal damage!

The player was arrested after being found in the bottom of his sports car, drunk, after driving into an innocent civilian's garden wall!

The 33-year-old was also banned from driving for four years.

'It coincided with the break up of his marriage to wife Michelle and his three children went to live with their mother, his stepfather died and another relationship with a woman went pear-shaped.

'He had set up a business to provide a diversion at the end of his playing career, but found the manager was trading fraudulently and then, that his best friend had begun stealing money from him.'

Mr Gelsthorpe told that court that Charles, who also has previous convictions for being drunk and disorderly outside a hair salon and urinating in a police cell, is now seeking help.

'With the benefit of hindsight he is ashamed by what he has done. These were symptoms of the illness that he suffers from,' he said.

The court heard that Charles has wound up trading of his double glazing firm and employed a friend of his late stepfather to act as a minder and career.
