FA Cup 5th Round Draw

The Coveted Prize
By Gary Spate January 27 2004
The Draw for the FA Cup 5th Round has been made with several all-Premiership ties being drawn. Arsenal have been drawn against fellow title challengers Chelsea while Manchester United will face either local rivals Manchester City or Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
Liverpool, after knocking out Newcastle United, will face Premiership newcomers Portsmouth and Birmingham City will play host to Division One's Sunderland.

West Ham, who knocked out Wolves, will visit either Fulham or Everton.

Sheffield United, who made the semi-finals of the competition last season, will play host to either Coventry City or Colchester United.

"If you don't get one of the glamour clubs, you've got to get a home tie. All the clubs will think it's a winnable tie," said Blades manager Neil Warnock.

Colchester manager Phil Parkinson is trying not to look past their fourth-round replay.

He said: "We've got a very, very tough game against Coventry to contend with first. While it wasn't the glamour tie everyone wanted it's still a chance to come up against a top First Division team. It's great to be in the hat and everyone in the town is on a high."

Meanwhile down in the doldrums of English football, Swansea City have been handed a disappointing draw against Division Two's Tranmere Rovers.

"With all respect to Tranmere you've got to feel a bit disappointed," said Lee Trundle who scored Swansea's winning goal in the previous round victory over Preston North End.

" At this stage of the competition you would expect to draw a Premiership side. But we've got to be upbeat about it, we've got a good chance of going there and winning."

Conference side Telford United are still in the round, they will play either Burnley or Millwall.

FA Cup 5th Round Draw:
Man Utd v Man City/Tottenham
Tranmere v Swansea
Telford/Millwall v Burnley
Sunderland v Birmingham
Sheff Utd v Coventry/Colchester
Arsenal v Chelsea
Liverpool v Portsmouth
Everton/Fulham v West Ham
