Harriers v Wycombe Sat 28th August KO 3.00pm
Harriers take on the Chairboys on Saturday for the 1st time since Wycombe's promotion to the league in 1993. I will look back at some of our games with Wycombe in a minute. So Harriers will be looking for their 2nd win of the season against Tony Adams men, who were relegated from div 2 (or lge 1) last season.
Harriers could be without Ade Viveash again, he was withdrawn from the Carling Cup game by Swindon and has been suffering with a dead leg. Almost certainly out will be Addou Sall and Rueben Hazell. If Viveash doesnt make it, it is likely that young Chris Mc Hale will continue in defence. Not sure how far Iyseden Christie is away from fitness, who knows he could make the bench, whilst Youssou Diop has missed the last couple of games.
Harriers need to build on their mid week game against Cardiff in the Carling Cup, when they pushed the Bluebirds all the way before losing on penalties. Even then they can blame the officials for more standard sillyness in allowing Cardiff to retake a missed spot kick. Still thats old news now. We,as fans, have to accept that 99 tiles out of 100, the ref will be a dissapointment. To be fair it not all down to the ref, the rules are far too complex now and more help is required. This could be from technology or even extra officials. But with someone like Sepp Blatter in charge at FIFA, dont hold your breath.
Anyway, enough of that, lets have a quick squint back at games with Wycombe.
1992-93
2 meetings, the 1st at Aggboro saw the Chairboys steamroller Kidder with a 4-1 win. Kidder legend Kim Casey on the scoresheet for Martin O Neil's men. Harriers drew 1-1 in th return at Adams Park.
1991
The most famous meeting was at Wembley in 91, in front of a record Final crowd, Wycombe won 2-1. Paul Jones played his last game for Harriers before leaving for his 1st spell at Wolves, whilst Dave Hadley scored Harriers 1st ever goal at Wembley
1985-86
2 meetings in the Goal League at an aggregate victory for Harriers of 13-4. Harriers won 5-2 at Wycombes old sloaping ground, Loakes Park and then destroyed Wycombe 8-2 at Aggboro. Kim Casey broke Peter Wassells goalscoring record that night on his way to a seasons tally of 73 in 68 games. Oh for a time machine now !
1981-82
Harriers made it through to the FA Trophy quarter finals for the 1st time and faced Wanderers at Aggboro. Kidder were edged out by a single goal after Wycombe made the most of a defensive mix up. Harriers tried in vane and were denied by keeper Gary Lester and also the wood work, with Archie Richards being the unlucky one. The crowd was jsut under 3000 at Aggie and Wycombe went on to lose to Altrincham in the Semis.
