Sir Alex Ferguson has backed struggling left-back Patrice Evra to find his form in a Manchester United shirt. The 25-year-old has failed to match his £5.5million price tag since his January move from Monaco.

Sir Alex Ferguson has offered support to out-of-form defender Patrice Evra.

The left-back has failed to make much of an impact since his January transfer from Monaco, with Ferguson heavily criticised for splashing out £5.5million on the player's services. Evra has made only 14 appearances since the move, but the United boss partly blames Mikael Silvestre's return to form as reasoning for his new signing's lack of first-team chances.

"Silvestre came in and settled in at left-back and did very well, he said ‘you can’t put me out of the team, I’m playing too well’, and these things happen." said the Scotsman.

"I think Patrice understands that. He’s been doing well in training and is making progress. He’s a good left-footed player which is hard to get."
