Former manager Wilf McGuinness has hailed the Red Army, claiming Manchester United supporters are a credit to the club as a whole. His comments follow tremendous vocal support from the United faithful at Ewood Park today, where the standard bloated following for the short trip of 6,500 were in attendance.
The atmosphere amongst the away end last Saturday was helped by fans adopting a retro theme for the day, chiefly organised by popular fanzine Red Issue. Supporters were encouraged to wear 1970's attire, and old shirts, bar scarf and merchandise displaying messages linked to Tommy Docherty and his infamous 'Doc's Red Army' following from the time were on show throughout the game.
It was also a day where past chants were remembered, with the current songbook given a break for some old favourites. 'Skip to the Lou Macari' and other classic echoed around the ground, instead of the more modern repertoire. The efforts of the fans made an otherwise dull game highly enjoyable, and well done to all involved!
On his regular column for official United site ManUtd.com, McGuinness said: "The fans were our star people; the support they gave the team was absolutely tremendous. The crowd that follows the team home and away in particular have done it all season. They are a credit to Manchester United, but they have to be rewarded with better performances."

The Scotsman claimed that the vocal efforts from the fans was the nucleus behind the teams triumph over the Cup holders.
