Opening goal for Arsenal

Former Manchester United man Henrikh Mkhitaryan was on the scoresheet as Arsenal took a huge leap towards the Europa League quarter-finals with victory at the San Siro, against AC Milan.

Aaron Ramsay, a former Red Devils target himself, was also on the scoresheet as Arsene Wenger’s men put recent troubles behind them to claim victory in Italy.

29-year-old Mkhitaryan's 15th-minute strike was his first goal for Arsenal, since swapping Old Trafford for the North London club, in a high-profile deal which sae Alexis Sanchez move in the other direction.

Armenian international Mkhitaryan was making his seventh appearance for Arsenal – and his goal provided welcome tonic for under-fire Wenger, who looks increasingly unlikely to be at the club next season.

The Ashburton Grove club went into the game on the back of four consecutive defeats - to Ostersunds FK, twice against Manchester City - including the League Cup Final - and at Brighton & Hove Albion.

AC Milan, meanwhile, sit seventh in the Serie A table and face a huge task if they are to overturn the two-goal deficit in North London on 15 March.
