'Outstanding' De Gea

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger praised the performance of David de Gea, after the Manchester United goalkeeper produced a man of the match display on Saturday.

The Spaniard was in inspired form between the sticks, denying the home side on a number of occasions to keep the Red Devils comfortably ahead.

United claimed a crucial 3-1 win at Ashburton Grove; thanks largely to a frantic opening eleven minutes in which Antonio Valencia and Jessie Lingard found the target.

owever, the Gunners would go onto control the game for long periods, only for De Gea to repeatedly deny the North Londoners, as United held out for a vital victory, despite the dismissal of Paul Pogba.

Following the game, Wenger said: “I am really disappointed because it was a good performance, but we had nothing to show for it at the end and that is hard to take. We weren’t efficient enough in the areas where it matters. We put ourselves in difficult positions."

He went onto say of United's stopper, "Their goalkeeper was absolutely outstanding."

De Gea notched up a total of 14 saves during the thrilling contest - including jaw-dropping efforts to deny Alexandre Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez.
