Faces former club

Manchester United will face Real Madrid in a mouth-watering 2017 Uefa Super Cup clash.

The game was confirmed after Real won the Champions League in Cardiff on Saturday, after a dominating second-half display helped secure a 4-1 win over Juventus.

Former Red Devil Cristiano Ronaldo bagged two goals, as the Madrid club weathered an early storm following a strong Juve start, and ultimately won the game with ease.

Mario Mandzukic had levelled for the Serie A champions with a stunning finale goal, but Real's Casemiro and Marco Asensio were also on the scoresheet for the Spanish club to give the scoreline an emphatic flavour.

Real's triumph followed Manchester United's 2-0 Europa League win against Ajax, setting up a brilliant Super Cup clash in Macedonia.

The game is scheduled to be United's first competitive fixture of the new season, with the Premier League campaign getting underway four days later.

Blancos are the current holders of the competition, which they also won in 2014. This will be their sixth appearance in the Super Cup, currently boasting three wins, and two defeats.

Jose Mourinho's men, meanwhile, will be looking to put right defeats in this competition in 1999, to Lazio, and 2008, against Zenit St Petersburg. United's only success in the match came in November 1991, beating Red Star Belgrade at Old Trafford.

After winning the Community Shield, League Cup and Europa League during his fifrst season at the club, the Super Cup offers Mourinho an opportunity to win his fourth piece of silverware at the club in only twelve months.
