Horror show

Jose Mourinho was embarrassed on his return to Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea thumped a hapless Manchester United by four goals to nil, in a Premier League contest which set a worrying tone for an unpredictable campaign.

Goals from Pedro, Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard and N'Golo Kante saw a clinical and prolific Chelsea claim three points, leaving United seventh in the table - with 14 points from their opening 9 league outings.

The West London club made it three wins, and three clean sheets, on the bounce as they swept aside the Red Devils.

On his 50th appearance for the club, Pedro broke the deadlock inside the opening 30 seconds; as he latched onto a Marcos Alonso pass and took advantage of a dithering United backline.

More defensive uncertainties from a Hazard corner allowed Cahill to drill home the second goal, before the Belgian provider turned goalscorer shortly after the hour mark to put the result beyond reasonable doubt.

Kante was too quick and eager for United’s back four as he scored the fourth goal,in what was a dismal afternoon for Mourinho and his charges. This was United's heaviest margin of defeat to the Pensioners since a 5-0 reverse at the Bridge in October 1999.
