Manchester United’s Champions League qualification hopes were given a major boost on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 home win over Everton.

Anthony Martial's left-footed effort was the only goal of the game, assisted by Timothy Fosu-Mensah shortly after the hour mark.

Everton always offered a threat - with Phil Jagielka flicking a shot at David de Gea from a corner in the closing stages, and the towering figure of Romelu Lukaku constantly making himself felt.

Jagielka also headed against the bar for the away side, in a game which will not feature heavily in the Premier League history books.

However, whilst there was little excitement on the pitch, the game was noteworthy for the official unveiling of the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand - the new name for the Grandstand at Old Trafford.

The win lifts United to fifth in the table, a single point behind bitter rivals City, who occupy the final Champions League spot.

Full Time - Manchester United 1-0 Everton
Attendance - 75,341
