England 1-1 U.S.A
It started so well for England as Gerrard latched onto a Heskey flick and drilled a fine finish beyond the reach of former United stopper Tim Howard.
However, England couldn't add to their tally and USA equalised in stunning circumstances five minutes before the break. Clint Dempsey's tame low shot should have been easy for Green - but the England stopper somehow fumbled the ball into his own net to the shock of all in attendance.
Fabio Capello's men couldn't break down the Americans after the break to re-take the lead and will have to settle for a disappointing point. Heskey should have done better with a fine chance, while England squandered a handful of other opportunities on a largely low-key evening.
USA's players celebrated at the full-time whistle as they bag a point that boosts their chances of qualifying for the knock-out stages; while England will know that big improvements are necessary in the remaining group matches against Algeria and Slovenia.
United midfielder Michael Carrick was an unused substitute as 44,026 fans watched on.
