United fall behind in the race to Wembley.

In what was at times a pulsating game at Eastlands, Manchester United came away from their neighbours ground with a goal deficit after losing 2-1. The Carling Cup semi final was played in a sensational atmosphere with the red army in full voice.

After taking the lead through a Ryan Giggs tap-in the champions failed to capitalise on their dominance and were punished by former favourite Carlos Tevez.

City got back on level terms after Craig Bellamy fell in the penalty box after being clearly fouled outside the area by young Rafael who was booked for the offence. In front of the United fans the Argentinian Tevez smashed the ball home from the spot.

Into the second half and City who were growing in confidence got their reward via a Tevez second goal on 65 minutes when he headed into the United net. It was poor defending by United who paid the full price the game drew to a close the red devils attacked the city goal in search of an equaliser in vain, the match but not the tie was lost. All to play for next Wednesday at Old Trafford.

Before that Hull City visit the Theatre of Dreams for a re-arranged Premier League game as both teams are out of the FA Cup. It would be the ideal time to put on a good performance in a match which promises to have a lot of green & yellow in the stands - as fans are urging each other to wear the cub's original colours in protest at the current owners financial handling of the club.
