United linked with Scottish starlet

United target?
By Chris,
January 10 2010
Manchester United have been linked with a swoop for Glasgow Rangers centre-back Daniel Wilson. Newspaper speculation from the Daily Star suggests the Red Devils and a host of other Premier League clubs are tracking the progress of the Scotsman.

Capped for Scotland at under-17 and under-19 level, Wilson is widely touted as an excellent prospect for the future.

The teenager has already made a handful of appearances for Rangers' first-team, making his professional debut in the Scottish League Cup in a 3-1 win against Dundee.

A host of Premier League clubs have reportedly been alerted by the players' potential, with Chelsea and Spurs said to be interested.

18-year-old Wilson wears squad number 66 at Ibrox Park.

Another "starlet" ?

It's time to buy class, gauranteed class. Ok he might be fantastic, but he might not.

I'd prefer to buy already established world class players.

If we are to buy him, it would hopefully be part of a group of players bought, and he would be one of the only "starlets" in the new blood.

He is a pretty good defender from what I have seen of him so far. He reads the game well for a young lad and has good distribution.

Unfortunately it may be a case of having to cut the cloth accordingly.

The debt is rising and the Glazers are having troubles in USA.

With a £500 million ebt to be serviced, the days of the big marque signing look like they are truly over. Lads like this will be the future for the forseeable future. Glazers have got us into a mountain of debt and remember its the club that holds the debt not the Glazers. They are struggling in the states so we are going to cut our cloth accordingly - we have been successful in doing so in the past, looks like we will have to be again.

Trouble is, there is nothing coming through the youth ranks that is of the required quality.

City and Chelsea will have the money for marquee signings and will continue to improve.

Arsenal have a great bunch of kids.

SAF will be severely tested over the next few seasons.
