Ferdinand could return 'in two weeks'

Rio Return?
By Chris,
January 10 2010
Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful that Rio Ferdinand will be available for first-team selection in two weeks. A back problem has seen the English centre-half spend a prolonged period on the sidelines.

Ferdinand has started only five Premier League games last season, and has been out of action since the painful 2-0 reverse at Anfield earlier in the season.

The defender, however, is showing signs of improvement and is thought to be nearing a return to first-team action.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Fergie said: "I'm very happy with Rio's progress. He's been doing a lot of running and could be back in action in two weeks."

The United boss will be anxious to have Ferdinand available again. A string of defensive injury problems have not helped the team's bid for silverware in recent weeks.
