Barca bound?
The transfer talk will alarm many United fans after the club parted company with Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez over the summer.
Powerful frontman Rooney is arguably the most important player at the club, having bagged 105 goals in all competitions since his high-profile move from Everton five years ago.
Press reports allege that Catalan giants Barcelona, conquerors of United in last season's European Cup final, are lining up a massive bid for the England forward and hope that United's hefty debt following the Glazer takeover could force through a move.
Such speculation may be little other than paper talk - but it's easy to see why Pep Guardiola would wish to sign the influential Rooney as his club aim to continue winning major honours and thwart off the threat of big-spending Real Madrid in Spain.
However, Rooney is settled in the North West and has never expressed any desire to move abroad. His wife Coleen has just given birth to their first child, and the 24-year-old is one of the first names on Sir Alex Ferguson's team sheet each and every week.
