Father and son could battle it out for signature

Father & son

Reports suggest that Sir Alex Ferguson and his own son Darren could soon be battling it out in a transfer tug-of-war for Stockport County’s defender Josh Thompson.

Both Manchester United and Peterborough United have been linked with a move for promising Stockport defender Thompson.

Reports suggest that the player has enjoyed a successful trial at Old Trafford and Ferguson is now prepared to splash out £500,000 on the player's services.

However, press reports claim that Sir Alex's son Darren is also interested in signing Thompson - and would be able to offer him guaranteed first-team football with his newly-promoted Posh side.

The 18-year-old is highly regarded as a hot prospect for the future and any interest from the Premier League champions would surely trump an approach from London Road.

However, Sir Alex and Darren could perhaps reach an agreement that would see the defender loaned to Peterborough indefinitely with United keeping a watchful eye on proceedings.
