He's gone
Ronaldo has signed a six-year contract at Real and is set to become the highest-paid player on the planet; almost doubling his wage packet from his Old Trafford days.
The
winger joined United from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 for a fee in the region of
£12.2million. The youngster had impressed United's players during a friendly
game between the two clubs - and the Red Devils moved quickly to snap him up.
He would
go onto make 244 appearances for the club, bagging 118 goals - including an incredible
42 strikes in United's league and European double-winning year in 2008.
However, speculation that a move to the Bernabeu was in the offing have proved
a disruption to the club for some while.
After his 42-goal wonder year, Ronaldo publicly expressed a desire to join Real before Sir Alex Ferguson eventually put his foot down surrounding any move. However, twelve months later, the lure of a £80million offer proved too much to decline and United can now look forward to splashing some serious cash on the transfer market this summer.
Cheerio to Ronaldo - I'm sure European competition will mean we'll meet again soon.
