United need one point to equal Scouse record

18 titles?!
By Chris,
May 15 2009
Old Trafford will be a scene of celebration on Saturday afternoon if Manchester United can pick up at least a point against Arsenal for tomorrow’s 12.45pm kick-off. The Red Devils are on the verge of an eighteenth league championship crown following the hard-fought 2-1 win at Wigan Athletic during the week.

The Scousers are in action on Sunday against West Bromwich Albion - but that game, in terms of the title race, will be ‘dead rubber' if Fergie's men can pick up at least a point against Arsenal.

The Gooners know they're going to finish fourth and travel to Old Trafford playing for little more than pride and revenge. The North London club will still be smarting after being dumped out of Europe by United - but with Andriy Arshavin set to be involved; Arsenal's fans will hope that their side will provide more of a threat to the defending league champions.

Arsenal, however, are without goalkeeper Manuel Almunia; whilst Tomas Rosicky, Gael Clichy, William Gallas and Eduardo are all unavailable.

United will be handed the league trophy after the full-time whistle if they get the required point.

It will mean that the Reds have equalled Liverpool's haul of eighteen league titles and will mark an emotional moment for Sir Alex and the club's supporters.

Amazingly, only one of United's ten Premier League titles have been one at home - in 1999, following a nervy 2-1 win over Arsenal's North London rivals Spurs.

United are without Rio Ferdinand who has a groin injury. Reports suggest the England defender might return to action at the KC Stadium next weekend; though Sir Alex may wish to keep him fresh for the European Cup final.

Come on Reds. Let's finish the job - and let's do it at Old Trafford.

really looking forward to tonight, 1 more point and we can put the scousers bragging rights back where they belong. Lets finish the job and use every first choice player who isn't injured, sort Arsenal out and have a rest next week. Kick off is 9.45pm here in Melbourne so should be 'warmed up' by then!, perfect!

^ Of course I am mate. I just hope that I can be sober enough to see the 90th minute celebrations instead of over a toilet bowel throwing up whatever drink I had. (Sm6)

Hopefully come the end of the match the title of this thread will be wrong, since it wont be Liverpool's record anymore.
