Fergie wants Tevez stay

Staying put?

Sir Alex Ferguson has emphasised his admiration for popular forward Carlos Tevez and insists he wants the Argentinean to stay at Old Trafford. As uncertainty about the player’s future continues to dominate the press headlines, the United boss has suggested that any problems lie in the nature of discussion with Tevez’s third-party contractual owners Media Sports Investments.

Speaking to Sky Sports after United's 2-1 win at Wigan Athletic, Fergie confirmed that he wants Tevez to remain at the club.

The Scotsman also suggested that the player would have no trouble agreeing personal terms with United and that any problem solely lies in negotiations between the club and Tevez's third-party contractual owners Media Sports Investments.

"He is a fantastic little player," said the United boss.

"He knows I want him to stay. I've had a chat with him today, David Gill has had some meetings with him today and it has progressed.

"We hope we get what we want. I keep saying that the situation has not changed. We're not negotiating with a football club and that is the problem. Carlos himself is OK and the terms he has been offered are good."

Tevez's two-year loan move to United comes to an end at the end of the season and the Red Devils are reluctant to splash out a further £22million on the South American's services.
