Messi launches scathing verbal attack on Ronaldo

Best of pals? NO!
By Chris,
January 8 2009
Lionel Messi has delivered a scathing attack on Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo. The Barcelona star has named his own personal World XI for 2008 for uefa.com – and rival Ronaldo does not feature. Messi has described the Portuguese international as a “loathsome brat” and a “mummy's boy”.

Messi has picked his World XI for 2008 - but didn't even consider picking World Player of the Year, Ronaldo.

The young winger gave a contemptuous analysis of United's number seven, saying: "He's diving, preening, mummy's boy who goes missing in big games and is slowed down by the weight of his own ego. All real football fans detest this loathsome brat and the sooner he becomes an expensive prima donna at Real Madrid the better."

Messi, however, named two United stars in his XI. Rio Ferdinand partnered Barca's Carles Puyol at the heart of the defence, whilst Wayne Rooney was named in attack. They were the only two players to make the cut.

Interesting, Sir Alex Ferguson was chosen to manage the side ahead of Pep Guardiola and Diego Maradona - Messi's bosses with Barcelona and Argentina respectively.

The youngster didn't name himself in his team - but there was room for Chelsea's Peter Cech and Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas.

Lionel Messi's World XI 2008: Petr Cech (Chelsea), Maicon (Inter), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Carles Puyol (Barcelona), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Feyenoord), Javier Zanetti (Inter), Xavi (Barcelona), Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona), Sergio Aguero (Atletico Madrid), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).

I have watched Messi several times and can't see what all the fuss is about. He wouldn't make it onto my bench for a World XI, that's even if I couldn't include United players.

I'm not opinionated, I'm just clever enough to back up my alternative opinions with facts....stats for example.

His record as Barcelona, for a winger is phenomenal though. He's only 21 and has bagged 41 league goals from 91 appearances - and has already got 33 caps for Argentina, scoring ten goals.

If this interview is anything to go by, he’s a feisty character too!

What are the likes of Rooney doing in that Team.

I though he selected REAL STARS who never disappear in big games?

Wait for chelski on Sunday. Rooney's only contribution will be a Red Card for 10 bookable offenses.

A comment like that from Evra might have fired up most teams if he'd said it before the match but this lot would probably have gone off crying to Arsene telling him about the nasty man's comments.

This quote seems fabricated. It's basically every ABU's complaint. Diving, Preening, Mummy's Boy? I'm not sure that Messi's command of english includes knowing Brit slang. Also, Messi is nowhere near that unprofessional. This story ran for two days without the quote. I think this was tacked on. I call bullshit.

Nathan Jackson are you for real, don't even sign on as a knowledgable football fan, Messi is everything Ronaldo isn't and that's CLASS. If anyone watched El Clasico this year they would of seen Messi getting lumped out of it by Madrid players and he kept getting back up and looking for more, no complaints he just plays football, something ronaldo could do with learning from. I would never have Ronaldo in my team because he doesn't understand what the term team means. Never see him tracking a player huge lack of Discipline and does things on the pitch only for his own Glorification and the fact Ferguson puts up with it is beyond me.

Well then Nathan Jackson your real name must be Stevie Wonder or Corky as your either blind or not right in the head. Are you sure its Messi your watching and not Anderson???? I mean you do actually know who Messi is dont you???? hahaha now you know why you didnt get that job as a top football pundit eh!!! Coz you know jack about football. Anyone who can honestly say they dont know what all the fuss about Messi is has to be an idiot or a liar. Which are you?

Also this is a wind up as Messi never said those things about Ronaldo although he did leave him out of his World 11.

ray yeh u right. all messi did was leave him out the team and some jurnalists made it seem as if its an attack on ronaldo even in their headlines.

Somehow I doubt the validity of this supposed 'article'. When did journalists stop trying?

LOL. Speaking about disappearing, does Arsenal even play football anymore? I thought they were a club who would pride themselves on winning titles but havent seen them on any winners list since 2005.

So have Arsenal folded?

I am argentinian, ive heard Messi speak a number of times, and I can assure you he would never say such things about Ronaldo or any other player for that matter. Its blatantly obvious to me that the quote was fabricated

Anyway he was all right, he was walking added the witness, confirming that Ronaldo is the only man in Manchester who walks away from massive car smash but spends five minutes writhing in agony if someone pulls his socks down.

Or maybe the car protected him but he can be kicked at will in the premiership (Sm16)

He is the most fouled player in the premiership. so shocking that he gets so many free kicks huh? (Sm16)
