Ronaldo made an impact
Tomasz Kuszczak: The Polish stopper could do nothing about Commons' wonderstrike and did well with a series of aerial challenges. One of a few players who can hold his head high. 7/10
Rafael Da Silva: The youngster had a great start to life at United, but was given a harsh reality check at Pride Park and was often beaten by Commons' drive and energy. 5/10
Johnny Evans: The Ulsterman was fairly solid at the back as he continues to stake his claim for a regular first-team spot. A bit lightweight, but Evans is learning. Also made an important clearance off the line. 6/10
Nemanja Vidic: Gave Commons far too much space for Derby's goal but kept battling at the back when the hosts threatened to add to their one-goal lead. 6/10
John O'Shea: Didn't prove United's backline with the calm head required. The Irishman made a couple of decent surges forward but was sloppy on the ball and his positioning was below-bar. 5/10
Darron Gibson: Looked troubled on the right-wing, Gibson made a couple of surging runs forward as he looked to enhance his fledging reputation. However, the youngster got little reward. 6/10
Paul Scholes: The Reds needed an experienced head like Scholes on Wednesday but the player had a quiet evening and was kept quiet by Derby's determined midfield. 4/10
Anderson: The Brazilian too had a quiet night in midfield. His distribution was poor as the player struggled to have much impact on proceedings. 5/10
Nani: On a week that saw Ryan Giggs hint at retirement, the winger was clumsy in possession and looked too lightweight against battling County. Plenty of effort though. 5/10
Danny Welbeck: After a promising spell at Southampton, Welbeck had a quiet night at Derby. The youngster failed to trouble Roy Carroll as the Rams backline helped firm. 4/10
Carlos Tevez: The South American frontman was particularly ineffective in attack. With his mind perhaps wandering elsewhere, Tevez rarely looked threatening as United struggled to carve out chances. 4/10
Substitutes:
Cristiano Ronaldo: Ronny played just 27 minutes - but had the biggest impact of any of United's outfield players. The winger made some threatening runs down the flank and went agonisingly close with a trademark free-kick. 7/10
Wayne Rooney: Lifted the team when he came off the bench, but Derby's defence forced Rooney deep with the England striker failing to trouble Carroll. 5/10
Michael Carrick: The former Spurs man was thrown on to give United some composure but he didn't have much time to make a significant impact. 5/10
