United and Toffees share the spoils

Opening goal

Manchester United claimeda point at Goodison Park in Saturday's early kick-off - but will have wanted more after taking the lead and dominating the opening period. Darren Fletcher broke the deadlock on 22 minutes, but Marouane Fellaini restored parity shortly after the hour mark. The result leaves the Red Devils with 15 points from their opening eight league games.

United controlled the first-half and took a deserved lead through Fletcher. The Scotsman charged onto a Ryan Giggs pass and slotted the ball home.

Ex-Red Tim Howard was on excellent form in the Toffees goal and United failed to add to their slender advantage before half-time.

Everton battled back after the break and Fellaini pulled the scores level with Phil Neville, another former Red, providing the ammunition.

Speaking of ex-Reds, Louis Saha was also in action for Everton. He nearly found the net early-on when he saw an effort blocked by Wesley Brown.

The home side grew in confidence after the equaliser and Yakubu saw an effort palmed onto the woodwork in the closing stages.

Full Time - Everton 1-1 Manchester United
Attendance - 36,069
