On Fire!
Celtic's last visit to Old
Trafford was a classic - with United eventually edging an end-to-end contest 3-2.
This time around, however, the game was largely one-way traffic with United
producing another mouth-watering attacking display to sweep the Scottish
Champions to one side.
Berbatov opened the
scoring on 30 minutes with a poacher's goal. He poked home John O'Shea's pass
but replays clearly showed the Bulgarian was offside.
Celtic's frustration
turned to outrage six minutes after the interval as Berbatov again appeared
offside. Artur Boruc could only palm away Cristiano Ronaldo's drive - and the
former Spurs striker, who had been in an offside position when the shot came
in, sent the ball home.
Rooney put the game beyond
doubt on 76 minutes, teasing Glenn Loovens before sweeping the ball home from
the edge of the penalty box with an accurate finish. It made up for a
disallowed strike earlier in the half when the England forward wrongly had an
effort disallowed.
Controversy aside, Celtic can have no complaints about the result. United were rampant - and after a slightly slow-start that had the media crowing about our potential demise, we're now in full throttle and have chalked up six consecutive wins and five clean sheets on the bounce.
Old Trafford was rocking and the atmosphere was excellent. There were a few Celtic fans sprinkled in the home end and the odd report of some hostilities - but, over the years, the club has enjoyed a largely friendly relationship with Celtic and most Bhoys fans were very complimentary of United's superb performance.
It's Goodison Park
next - can we keep the run keep going?
