United smash Baggies with second-half heroics

Breaks the deadlock

An explosive second-half display from Manchester United saw Sir Alex Ferguson’s men cruise into fourth spot with a 4-0 demolition job of West Bromwich Albion. Wayne Rooney continued his sparkling form with the opening goal before Cristiano Ronaldo, Dimitar Berbatov and Nani got on the scoresheet in front of 75,451 at Old Trafford.

The in-form Rooney had a first-half strike disallowed as the Baggies battled hard for 45 minutes to maintain parity.

However, United flew out of the traps after half-time and the goal came on 56 minutes before setting-up Ronaldo for the second thirteen minutes later.

The result was put beyond doubt as Berbatov struck on 72 minutes. Nani's quick cross bounced through the legs of Throstles defender Jonas Olsson and the Bulgarian was on-hand to poke home from close range. Nani then got on the scoresheet himself as he knocked home a Rooney pass in the dying moments.

This was a comprehensive win from United and Fergie will be delighted with another rampant display. There was a cautious but impressive 65 minutes from Brazilian youngster Rafael Da Silva, whilst Rooney has blown away his pre-season critics with another stunning performance.

Next up is the much-anticipated clash with Glasgow Celtic on Tuesday before United make the short trip to Merseyside to face Everton.

Full Time - Manchester United 4-0 West Bromwich Albion
Attendance - 75,451

Big week ahead.

Half day for me on Tuesday and looking forward to the atmosphere building up throughout the afternoon.

The club have e mailed all St holders reminding them not to sell their tickets onto unkown fans etc etc! Last time Celtic were at OT there was green and white in various parts of the ground....
