Shock as Arsenal set to join Silvestre race

Set to leave
By Chris, August 20 2008
Mikael Silvestre looks certain to leave Old Trafford before the transfer window closes - with a host of Premier League clubs showing interest. Speculation suggests that Sunderland face competition from Manchester City and, surprisingly, Arsenal as they aim to land the player's signature. United have slapped a £750,000 price tag on the defender.

Reports claim that Arsene Wenger has shown firm interest in taking Silvestre to Ashburton Grove.

Silvestre has been frozen out of first-team affairs at Old Trafford following some mixed form and a series of niggling injuries.

Sunderland and arch-rivals Man City were said to be leading the chase for the versatile Frenchman - but Arsenal have now joined the race.

Arsenal will be clear favourites to land Silvestre should a £750,000-bid from North London materialise.

The Gooners can offer him Champions League football and, in all honesty, a realistic crack at the league title. Roy Keane's Sunderland are expected to struggle, whilst the Bitter Blues suffered a humiliating 1-0 Uefa Cup defeat to FC Midtjylland as 30,000 City fans dressed up as unoccupied, blue plastic seats.

Yep he has signed.
When would you say the last transfer wass between the clubs?
I last remember Viv Anderson in 1987? Was that the last?

Viv Anderson was the last Arsenal to ManUnited transfer.

Brian Kidd was the last ManUnited to Arsenal transfer in 1974.

Geez this is getting so silly now. Arsenal is only buying players who can speak French. How many of Arsenal's squad speak French? If Blatter brought it in the foreigners rule, Arsenal would struggle. I think that is why Wenger is against the introduction of the rule.

The foreigners rule would really make Arsenal sweat.
6+5 is looking more and more likely too which I think would be good for footie.
